It’s terrible in the Central Valley right now — we’re under an “Excessive Heat Warning” until further notice.
Just take a look at the forecast above.
Yep, we’re like melted puddles of rotten cheese right now. Pretty gross. On Monday… I have no idea how we’re going to cope. As it is right now, I’m afraid our AC is going to die on us. I don’t want to go anywhere, because if the power goes out — we need to be here to take care of the animals and keep them comfortable.
Speaking of which — often during these heat waves, we’re so wrapped up in how us people are going to cope, that we forget the pets. Fortunately for us, all our kiddos are indoor pets. Second, we have a decent amount of freezer space — so I’m able to freeze used plastic water bottles to have on hand if the power goes out. Just wrap the bottles in towels, introduce to the fur-babies, and you’re good to go!
It’s so hot that I’m not even braving the heat to pick tomatoes for Bubbles. She’s having to fantasize by browsing pinterest.
I’m so glad Costco carries organic grapes (I’m allergic to the chemicals on non-organic grapes) we’ve been freezing them for snacks. I think these are the key to our survival right now LOL! Well, these and the almost 2 litres of bourbon that we also got at Costco 😉 Don’t worry, we’re only sharing the grapes with the guinea pigs — not the bourbon!
We’re not even cooking our meals this week. Well, we cooked almost everything today. Two tri-tips on the BBQ, and a large slow cooker of chicken breasts in broth for making shredded chicken. We’re looking forward to making a twist of this avocado & lime chicken salad, and maybe even deviled avocados baked with egg (I wonder if I can do this on the BBQ?) I also have two cucumbers on the vine that will be ready in a few days, looking forward to having those with smoked salmon and cream cheese… mmmm!
How do you survive heat waves?? What do you do to cope?
