This morning was a crazy one on hour urban homestead! Jeff and I had a long to-do list, but instead found ourselves stuck at home with me dealing with a potential kidney stone. Around ten, I dragged myself outside to make sure the girls were doing fine and didn’t need anything. They were all being very loud and cackling, which I just wrote off as them being upset at all the neighborhood revelry lately for New Year’s.
Sure enough, they had emptied their waterer again and kicked their coop feeder out into the run. While I was rearranging things inside the coop, I noticed this weird object half buried in the pine shavings outside of the nesting boxes… a teeny tiny egg!!!
Baby laid her first egg!!! It was covered in this white stuff — according to BYC it’s probably just excess calcium. I only had my iPhone with me to grab a quick photo of Baby with her egg (don’t worry, my phone got a good cleaning with 409 after the photo shoot!)
All morning & early afternoon, I had to keep going outside to quiet the girls down. At one point I noticed Selma was also laying, so I was excited that we’ll finally be getting more than one egg a day since Patty & Selma alternate days. Well, I was mistaken… not only did Selma lay an egg today, but Patty did too!!! Two huge milestones today — Baby’s First Egg, and the first day all three laid an egg!!!
I’m hoping Baby will give us a double yolker, since her sisters never laid any when they were getting their start.
Can’t wait to see how many eggs we get tomorrow!
